2010 solicitation for R & D project pre-proposals

Summer in the lab
A summer opportunity at Iowa State University (ISU) helps Iowa teachers bring real-life lab experience back to the classroom.

“It changed the way I look at science and how I teach kids about science,” said Eric Hall, a Des Moines Hoover High School teacher who enrolled in the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Biorenewable Chemicals Research Experience for High School Teachers (RET) at ISU.

Integrating solar water heating in the classroom and home
Tucked away on the bottom floor of the science building on the Dordt College campus in Sioux Center, IA, is a thermal storage tank about the size of the water heater in your home. What’s unique about this system are the copper pipes connecting it with two solar collectors on the roof of the building.
