The AFDC is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy to promote alternative fuel use in homes, businesses and automobiles. Their web site features a large amount of technical alternative fuel benefits, as well as a periodicals and news section.

Association of State Energy Research and Technology Transfer Institutions (ASERTTI)
ASERTTI is a confederation of state and regional organizations with energy research and development and technology transfer responsibilities. Their web site focuses on contacting member organizations iinASERTTI and past meeting minutes.

BioEnergy Feedstock Information Network
This U.S. Department of Energy web site hosts information about fast growing trees, grasses, and residues for fuels and power. Along with the detailed information on these programs, there are also bio-energy related publications and links offered.

Building Codes Assistance Project
The Building Codes Assistance Project assists states in the development and implementation of statewide building energy codes. A listing of state-by-state code and legislation is offered.

California Energy Commission
The CEC is California's primary energy policy and planning agency. Their web site features press releases and reports on California's energy concerns, as well as a complete list of the CEC funded programs.

Energy Quest - Energy Education from CEC
This web site from the CEC is geared towards educating children about energy issues and conservation methods. Also features on-line games and contests for kids .

Energy Efficiency Division
The Energy Efficiency Division is committed to making California's businesses, homes and appliances more energy efficient. This web site lists and gives the details for the all of CECs' energy efficiency programs and publications.

Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency
The Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) is Canada's center for energy efficiency and alternative fuels information. Their large web site features efficiency tips as well as a listing of all their programs, publications and workshops.

Center for Energy and Environmental Education
The CEEE is located on the University of Northern Iowa campus, is an organization that covers a range of energy and environmental education programs including the Iowa Festival Recycling Project and the Iowa Energy Summit.

Center for Environmental and Public Policy Dispute Resolution
RESOLVE, Inc. is a non-profit organization specializing in environmental dispute resolution, environmental mediation, consensus building, facilitation, conflict resolution and policy dialogue. Their web site features research resources, case studies and a news section.

Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research
The University of Iowa's CGRER promotes research efforts that focus on the multiple aspects of global environmental change. Their web site outlines CGRER goals and offers links to research and reports on a multitude of environmental issues.

Energy Information Administration
This site features official energy statistics from the U.S. Government. Information can be gathered by geography, fuel, sector, price, process, environment, forecasts and analyses.

Energy TechNet
Energy TechNet is a comprehensive resource for entrepreneurs engaged in developing and commercializing innovative energy efficient and renewable technologies. The Web site provides information and instruction on idea development, market assessment, intellectual property protection, funding, and more. In addition, the site provides the most complete collection of state and federal funding and business assistance resources currently available on the Internet.

Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP)
The Department of Energy's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) offers a comprehensive approach to energy efficiency, including facility assessments, design review, technology feasibility studies, project management assistance, among other services.

Federal Technology Alerts
Sponsored by the Department of Energy, Federal Technology Alerts (FTAs) are designed to provide an overview of U.S.-developed technologies related to energy-efficiency, water-conservation and renewable-energy. The FTAs contain up-to-date information on the emerging technologies, their applications, as well as a list of key contacts and information sources pertaining to the technologies.

Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium
The Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium (GHPC) was established as a collaborative effort with the U.S. Department of Energy and other public and private sector organizations for a (Geothermal Heat Pump Technology Demonstration and Market Mobilization Program.) This web site offers case studies and publications on geotherma lheat pump technology.

GREENTIE Environmental Information
IEA (International Energy Association) GREENTIE is an international information network that distributes details on companies which distribute products that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The searchable GREENTIE Directory database contains details of almost 8,000 technology suppliers and information organizations. Also provided is an updated news and links section.

Iowa Department of Commerce, Utilities Division
The Iowa Utilities Board regulates electric, natural gas, telephone and water utilities in Iowa. This detailed site contains the latest (and past) energy news releases, codes that govern industrial utility use, pending legislation. This site is updated frequently.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Energy Bureau
The Energy Bureau is the State of Iowa's agency for creating policies that decrease the state's reliance on imported fossil fuels. Their web site contains an extensive and detailed list of their programs and a news section.

Iowa General Assembly
This is the official web site for the state's lawmaking authorities. The General Assembly consists of Iowa's Senate and House of Representatives. Featured here are Iowa's codes, laws, agencies, legislators and past and pending legislation.

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Energy and Environment Division)
This is an immense web site that contains detailed information on the research at the LBNL. The focus of the research is developing technology that uses, converts and stores energy more efficiently and with less environmental impact. They also study and offer reports on energy use and the environment.

Building Technologies Program
A division of the LBNL, the Building Technologies department focuses its research on window lighting, day lighting, lighting systems and simulations.

Home Energy Saver Interactive Page
Another division of the LBNL, this site offers users a way to calculate energy use and savings opportunities based on a detailed description of their home. Users can begin the process by simply entering their zip code, and in turn receive instant initial estimates. By providing more information about the home the user will receive increasingly customized results along with energy-saving upgrade recommendations.

Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture
The Leopold Center, located at Iowa State University, works to identify and reduce negative impacts of agriculture on natural resources and rural communities. Their web site features research and publications by the Center, as well as a list of programs, events and conferences.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)/Weatherization
LIHEAP is designed to assist low-income families meet the cost of home heating. The program is offered through the Iowa Department of Human Rights, Division of Community Action Agencies.

National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO)
NASEO is a nonprofit organization whose membership includes energy officials from the state energy offices and affiliates from private and public sectors. NASEO is the state energy officials' Washington voice on national energy issues. Their web site features daily news updates and a listing of updates of legislative committe activities.

National Conference of State Legislatures
The NCSL web site provides personalized, comprehensive access for state legislators and legislative staff to NCSL information and reports, plus the ability to search more than 500,000 state documents encompassing legislative policy reports, current and past legislation, state statutes and 50-state surveys. The site also gives public users access to many NCSL reports, meetings schedule and is a gateway to state legislative sites. NCSL print publications can also be ordered.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration  (NOAA)
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) conducts research and gathers data about the global oceans, atmosphere, space and the sun. A Commerce Department agency, NOAA provides these services through five major organizations: the National Weather Service, the National Ocean Service, the National Marine Fisheries Service, the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service, and the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research. Numerous special program units are also included. An extensive site, each division here offers it's own listing of programs and information.

NOAA Central Region - Des Moines Forecast Office
NOAA's National Weather Service Weather Forecast for Des Moines, Iowa and surrounding areas. This is an extensive site offering data gathered by NOAA.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
NREL works toward a sustainable energy future by developing renewable energy technologies, improving energy efficiency, advancing related science, engineering and facilitating commercialization. Their large web site contains a detailed listing of NREL research that offers a spectrum of global marketing techniques and alternative fueling resources.

New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA)
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a public benefit corporation created in 1975 by the New York State Legislature. NYSERDA's principal goal is to help businesses, municipalities, and residents of New York State solve their energy and environmental problems while developing new, innovative products. Their web site consists of information concerning their programs and publications.

Pollution Prevention Regional Information Center
Pollution Prevention Regional Information Center (P2RIC) strives to provide quick and easy access to pollution prevention information from the states of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. P2RIC fosters improved resource sharing between the programs, businesses and agencies that provide waste reduction services and expertise to business and industry. Their web site provides an article research search engine and information on the environmental service providers in the states previously listed.

The DOE's site is the most complete and accurate source for energy information on the web. Found here are studies and reports on the full spectrum ofsources. This federal site is a very good starting point for any energy related search.

U.S. DOE - Federal Energy Management Program
The FEMP initiated the You Have the Power Campaign, which helps agencies reach their energy-saving goals by raising awareness of energy efficiency activities at federal agencies. This web site spotlights the energy saving work of agency personnel and provides material for energy awareness campaigns.

U.S. DOE - Small Business Innovation Research Program and Technology Transfer Program
The SBIR and the STTR work to increase and develop the private sector commercialization of technology through increased small business participation. This web site lists conference dates and facts about the two programs.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Programs
Though they concern themselves with every aspect of energy use, this federal web site offers a large amount of information on energy for around your home or business. Since the EPA is a regulatory agency, there is also a large amount of information given on for energy standards and laws.

U.S. EPA Energy Star Program
Energy Star-labeled products use less energy than other products, save you money on utility bills, and help protect the environment. This web site offers a list of Energy Star products and programs for your home.

Weatherization/Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
