Ethanol Production Unit – commercial sized distillation column.

The Ethanol Production Unit is used to created feedstocks which will be consumed in other biomass conversion processes located at BECON.

Researchers are investigating the use of sweet sorghum (a high sugar crop) and crops other than traditionally used corn as a feedstock for ethanol production. The solids remaining after fermentation will be used in a digestion system for further break down to produce other feedstocks (hydrogen, acidic acid, methane, etc.) to be used in a variety of other biomass conversion processes at BECON.
