Program Overview as of March 1, 2009
The Alternate Energy Revolving Loan Program was established in 1996 with funding from a three-year assessment, totaling $5.9 million, on the gross intrastate operating revenues of Iowa's investor-owned gas and electric utilities. Since that time, the AERLP has provided loans of more than $11.4 million in support of 88 renewable energy projects having total construction costs of $145 million.
The Energy Center began accepting applications in August 1996. To date, the program has received 194 new and 29 resubmitted loan applications that have led to 88 projects receiving funding. These facilities have an annual energy production equivalent to 1,835,530 MWh.
