Fiscal Year 2008-2009 GrantsThe Iowa Energy Center is funding the following projects for Fiscal Year 2008 – 2009 (starting July 1, 2008). The following projects are sorted by area of emphasis: Energy Efficiency or Renewable Energy Energy Efficiency Testing and Demonstration Facility Yield Improvement in Steel Casting Hybrid Electric School Bus Deployment and Evaluation Monitor Energy at the Center for Energy and Environmental Education, University of Northern Iowa, Phase II School Energy Efficiency Assessment and Assistance Project Meta-Control of Combustion Efficiency with a Data Mining Approach Scalable Energy Manager of HVAC Systems: A Lean Systems Approach Technical and Research Support for Iowa Energy Center Building Energy Efficiency Program Supercritical Water Gasification of Biomass Transition-Metal Catalyzed Reduction of Nitrogen to Ammonia Novel Materials and Devices for Solar Energy Conversion Ammonia Combustion in Diesel Engines for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emmissions Developing Fuel Injection Strategies for Using Ammonia in Diesel Engines Data-Driven Performance Optimization of Wind Farms Electrochemical Ammonia and Hydrogen Production from Polymer-Immobilized Nitrogenase Enzymes Combustion of Ammonia for Reduced CO2 in Heating and Power Generation Systems Sorghum Biomass Cropping System Implementing an Ammonia Economy Installation and Testing of Photovoltaic Energy Systems Innovative Biomass Derived Orgnic Acids Synthesis, Immobilization and Purification System Use of Supercritical Fluids and Other Novel Methodologies for the Production of High-Value Compounds from Biomass Evaluation of Lignin/Phenol Derived from Bio-oil Production for Use as an Antioxidant in Ashphalt Fiscal year 2009-2010 grant requests are under review. Conference and small demonstration proposals are accepted for review on a continuous basis. The Iowa Energy Center evaluates all proposals in terms of their responsiveness to the Request for Proposal, the overall mix of proposed new and existing projects, and available financial resources. Following reviews by Energy Center staff, peer reviewers, and Energy Center Advisory Council, the grantees are selected to receive support. The Energy Center awards grants to Iowa-based, nonprofit groups to conduct energy-related research, demonstration and education projects. These projects, which range in size and complexity, are conducted throughout the state by investigators at Iowa’s three major universities, colleges, community colleges and at nonprofit energy organizations and community-based educational groups.
